2025 BMW M5 Facelift: A Bold Leap into the Hybrid Era

Via The 2025 BMW M5 marks a significant evolution in the iconic M5 lineage, introducing a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time. This seventh-generation model, known as the G90, seamlessly blends electrification with the performance and luxury that the M5 is renowned for.

Electrifying Performance

Under the hood, the 2025 M5 combines a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This setup propels the M5 from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 190 mph when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package .

The hybrid system features a 14.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing an electric-only range of approximately 70 km (43 miles). This allows for silent, emission-free driving in urban settings, while the V8 ensures exhilarating performance when desired .

Design and Dimensions

The facelifted M5 adopts elements from BMW’s forthcoming Neue Klasse design language, featuring more angular headlights, a divided lower intake, and bulkier side air curtains . The signature kidney grille has been redesigned with two slim rectangular sections, replacing the previous model’s more square design.

Dimensionally, the new M5 has grown, measuring 200.6 inches in length, 2.7 inches wider, and 1.6 inches taller than its predecessor. This expansion results in a more spacious interior, offering increased comfort for all occupants .

Interior and Technology

Inside, the M5 boasts a tech-forward environment with BMW’s latest iDrive system displayed on a curved dual-screen setup. The cabin features high-quality materials, ambient lighting, and a suite of driver-assistance technologies. However, some critics have noted that certain materials feel less premium compared to previous models .

Driving Dynamics

Despite a curb weight of approximately 5,390 pounds, the M5 maintains impressive agility and handling. The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, combined with rear-axle steering and adaptive suspension, ensures precise control and dynamic performance .

Conclusion

The 2025 BMW M5 represents a bold step into the future, combining electrification with the performance and luxury that define the M series. While some purists may lament the added weight and hybridization, the new M5 offers a compelling blend of efficiency, technology, and exhilarating performance.
