BMW M5 Engine

The 2025 BMW M5 introduces a high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time in the model’s history, blending raw power with a touch of electrification for improved efficiency and driveability.

Engine and Hybrid Powertrain

  • Engine: 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 (S68 engine)
  • Electric Motor: Integrated within the 8-speed automatic transmission
  • Combined Output:
    • 717 horsepower
    • 738 lb-ft of torque

This is the most powerful M5 ever produced, eclipsing even the previous M5 CS in total output.

Battery and Electric Range

  • Battery: 14.8 kWh lithium-ion battery
  • Electric-Only Range: ~43 miles (70 km) WLTP
  • You can drive short distances in full electric mode — ideal for city commuting.

Performance Figures

  • 0–60 mph: 3.4 seconds
  • Top Speed:
    • Standard: 155 mph
    • With M Driver’s Package: 190 mph

Despite weighing over 5,300 pounds due to the hybrid system, the M5 retains its signature performance edge thanks to advanced chassis tuning and AWD.

Drivetrain and Dynamics

  • Transmission: 8-speed M Steptronic automatic
  • Drivetrain: M xDrive all-wheel drive with rear-wheel-drive mode
  • Suspension: Adaptive M Suspension Pro
  • Other Features:
    • Rear-wheel steering
    • Active M Differential
    • M-specific drive modes for tailored performance

Driving Experience

The hybrid M5 delivers instant torque thanks to the electric motor, enhancing low-speed acceleration while the V8 provides traditional M aggression at higher speeds. Whether cruising in electric silence or tearing down a track, the 2025 M5 is a dual-personality super sedan.
